How do i tell my dad i don't want to go to his favorite school?

Last year i applied for a high up school and got accepted. As my school year comes to an end i realized i don't want to go there anymore, i just want to move onto the township school. When i told my mom this she said it was my decision, but my dad he wont budge. He keeps telling me that i have to try out the school and that im throwing my life and a great opportunity away. How do i get him to let me go where i want to go and to not hate me for the rest of my life..?
