My friend has a male indoor/outdoor cat that is bleeding from the rectum. no injuries anywhere just dirty and?

she says he is a really clean cat usually. The vets office is closed this time of night and she is real concerned. What could be the cause of the bleeding? She has no trees that it could have climbed and fell from. That was my answer for her or it could have eaten something poisonous. Any other suggestions?
